Hryhoriy Helfer donated the bronze sculpture “Sholom Aleichem’s Heroes” to the Menorah Museum

This small bronze sculpture depicts a scene from the legendary play “Peace to Your Home” performed by the Drama and Comedy Theatre. Tevye the Milkman and his wife Golda — portrayed by Zhan Melnykov and Liudmyla Vershynina, People’s Artists of Ukraine and Honorary Citizens of Dnipro.

Five years ago, they passed away almost at the same time, but they remained in their native city forever…

Many of us still remember those performances: standing and applauding Tevye and Golda, and leaving the theatre hall as a slightly different person.

This very acting magic was captured in bronze by the prominent sculptor Harnik Khachatryan. His creative work is the master’s charitable contribution, and the prize money from the Sholom Aleichem Award, which the artistic director of the “DGU” Theatre, Hryhoriy Helfer, received this year, was just enough to cover the cost of the metal itself.

For the “DGU” Theatre, this is not just history. This is a profound tribute to our Teachers — those great artists who set creative guidelines and brought inspiration to entire generations.

Recently, Hryhoriy Helfer had the honor of personally handing over “Sholom Aleichem’s Heroes” to the respected Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.

We believe that soon a new, deeply touching exhibit will appear in the Menorah Museum. Dnipro must remember its great citizens!
