Sidur

This is the first theatrical performance in history, dedicated to the life and work of Vadym Sidur.
“Sidur” is an attempt to understand the work and life of one of the largest and most tragic artists of the 20th century. sculptor, graphic artist, poet. A man who was born in Dnipro (then Ekaterinoslav), who went through a terrible World War II, who worked in the suffocating conditions of totalitarianism and created masterpieces without the slightest hope of being seen, heard and recognized. But the world recognized and recognized the artist. It came to us later, much later…

The play “Sidur” transports the audience to the recreated workshop of the artist, where a tense dialogue unfolds between Vadym Sidur and the mysterious visitor, who turns out to be who he turns out – the audience will gradually learn.

This is the confrontation of worldviews, the struggle for the right to create and live freely.
The play addresses the themes on which the artist lived and suffered. Holodomor, Holocaust, Soviet-era repression, World War II, Severely wounded and resurrection miracle, severe heart attacks, loss of parents, the collapse of the ideas of the Holy See, the suffocating climate of Soviet reality, anti-Semitic sentiments, Underground culture format, etc…

The play features poems by Vadim Sidur, as well as fragments from his diaries.

“And then I was killed in the war. A German sniper’s bullet hit his left jaw, just below the eye and temple, shattering and knocking out everything that was possible, then passed through the root of the tongue, almost cut it off and tore it in the corner of the lower jaws and on the right, forming a huge hole. But there was a miracle of resurrection, and I stayed alive. Sometimes it even seems to me that it has been predetermined so that I can eventually create a “Monument to the victims of violence”, “Treblinka”, “Monument to the dead bombs”…”

It’s not just a play – it’s immersing yourself in space of memory, pain and resistance.
